Patty & Sadie on the nest...

Here's a pic of Patty and Sadie in their nest box. They love each other and are always together. Their nest box has heat to keep them warm at night. We have a remote thermometer to transmit the temp reading to us in our home so we can keep a check on them in cold weather.

New Run #2

A friend of ours had a run and coup with 6 Golden Comet hens. A ordinance in their sub-division forced them to get rid of it, so we took it and added to our little chicken run. We put it in place around our existing house and run. Here's a few photos...

You can see the old original coup and run inside of the new run. We did this because we have some of the older birds who are comfortable in their old home, and I wanted to try and get them accustomed to each other before turning them together.

Here, you can see the golden comets enjoying space outside of the old house and run. It worked out very well, and they were able to see each other.

The new coup (on stilts) is attached to the outside of the new pen. I plan to wrap the lower part of the house and allow it to be a closed in area to protect the area below from rain and wind. A good place to put food and water...

The new (to us) golden cometsenjoying the inside of the pen at the new location. With affection, we call them the "gang of 6", as they were all hand raised together. They're very loving birds and enjoyable to have.

A peep into the old house reveals Patty and Sadie in the nest box of the old house. They love it in there, and it's been home to them for quite some time.

I installed a "tunnel" between the run #1 and the outside of the pen, to allow us to turn Sadie and Patty in and out without them having to pass through the other "Gang of Six" :-)

Here, the "Gang of Six" are in the new coup and on the roost poles, peeping out at me when I walked in to take a pic.

Here, you can see the lower part of the Coup #2 enclosed in wire and black plastic to keep the wind and rain out, but usable by the birds.

Gang of Six

A few pics of the "Gang of Six, a group of 6 Golden Comet hens we have. They are hand raised, and love being held and pampered.
